While the original “Target dog” is a Miniature Bull Terrier named Bullseye, it looks like Zira the Corgi is going to give him a run for his money.
This adorable pup got to go on a trip with her humans to Target. Since we know how much humans love Target, just imagine how excited an already excitable creature would get surrounded by all the colors and people and things to sniff and see.
And – you guessed it – Zira had the time of her life, at least if the pictures are anything to go by.
Zira’s owners – Jesse and Kasey Donovan – uploaded the photos and a quick caption to the Love What Matters Facebook page last year and got lots of love (and, of course, a few criticisms).
“My dog went to Target—and look how happy she is! Zira’s a 4 month-old Corgi and Mini Aussie mix; and is in love with anything she can chew!”
“We spontaneously decided to go to Target yesterday morning, and took Zira. She absolutely loved it! Zira got new treats and a toy. While we were turning a corner, this woman shopping saw her and freaked out! She couldn’t stop going on and on about how cute Zira was.”
“Just another day of Zira spreading love and joy to the world… She loves meeting new people and getting attention!”
As you might imagine, Zira is a bit of a social media star. The Donovans have a Facebook page, Instagram, AND website devoted to the Welsh Corgi and mini Aussie mix as well as her Corgi sister Ellie:
The two animal lovers even adopted a shelter cat to join their family recently. Her name is Purrdita.
Unfortunately, family trips to Target were a one-time thing.
As many people know, the only animals allowed in Target are service animals. Once commenters pointed this out, Jesse and Kacey took responsibility for their mistake and apologized. They’ve also begun spreading awareness about pet-friendly stores. After all, it’s hard enough for people with service animals to be accepted in public places and they didn’t want to make it harder.
So now the family takes trips with the dogs to places like Marshalls and PetSmart.
And since the photos of Zira spread far and wide so quickly, they were able to get the word out to a lot more people. In fact, their Instagram page went from about 2000 followers 40,000 in just a few days! Jesse told KION News:
“Within the first two minutes it was like 400 likes, I was like Oh my gosh what is happening. At a point I just had to shut my phone off, because it was becoming too much. Everyone was loving her.”
Can you blame them? You don’t need to be a Corgi fan to get a kick out of these sweet faces.
Zira, Ellie, and Purrdita now have over 56,000 followers!
